Cafés, Edinburgh & Social Media

Before I get into the actual story, I’ll give you a little backstory…

I moved to Edinburgh after finishing Uni, and while working in a few different cafes, I met a number of faces in the coffee industry and the hidden gems began to show themselves! I definitely do not consider myself as any sort of coffee snob, but my very first coffee was a flat white from a small Nero in London. My search for specialty coffee in Edinburgh started from there.

With the below cafes of course comes their social media! They are doing a great job of keeping their social up to date, engaging, and exciting. Instagram is perfect for any visual brand such as these, where you can see the interior, food, coffee and vibes through a single shot. In fact, I only use Instagram when searching for new cafes because it gives you the perfect insight.

For anyone in Edinburgh in search of a really good lookin’ café with coffee and a social media to boot, keep reading. This is in no particular order – these are just all my favourites that you definitely need to try if you haven’t already!

Funnily enough, this is where I write this from. This place is full of people on a Sunday morning, soaking up the smell of 2 different coffee roasts from Assembly Coffee down in London. I’m onto a Long Black at the moment, a washed El Salvador with tastes of fruity sweetness. The staff here work behind a shining La Marzocco, the creme de la creme of coffee machines! Did I mention they also sell homewares and super cool bespoke magazines?

Their Instagram is boasting with images of food, plants and the interior. They create bright, interactive content and ask questions to which conversations are sparked between staff and customers!

Another element of their social which helps them along nicely is showing the faces behind the whole operation. We know that viewers love to see the real side of brands and this is one way it’s done. It also creates a friendly attitude to new-comers!

They regularly host plant sales, pilates and yoga classes, and workshops, which looking through their social media you can find all the information for!

Another fabulous café – this is based right near us at Sunshine Communications on the Water of Leith. The café takes up a space in an old factory on the water with an art gallery and a clothes shop in the same building. Perfect for a weekday coffee, and if you go at the right time you can choose from a load of filled bagels from The Bearded Baker!

This is an example of another brand creating exciting content. They regularly show off the café interior, along with scrumptious food and the freshly roasted beans that they sell. They are consistent with their posts and allow viewers a look into their real world and the faces behind the production.

Whilst browsing their Instagram, I can see their relationship with other popular Edinburgh cafes. To see this, gives the notion that they have quite a good relationship with others in the industry, another example of friendliness viewers will love!

Save the best ‘til last, right?

I love this café and their social media!

You can see it in their headline; Coffee, Bagels, Music, Vibes. After enjoying Filament myself I can say that this is exactly what’s on offer; Fresh juices, more 'Bearded Baker' bagels, fresh and fluffy pastries and beautiful cakes.

Their Instagram is bursting with funny, engaging, quirky, cute (they love dogs) content. They are all over their social media appearance and create an online presence that immediately involves everyone.

Filament support local suppliers and the Scottish coffee scene as a whole. They regularly hold charity fundraisers and capture their staff with big bright smiles. Their tone of voice is casual and relaxed which lends itself well to the what might seem ‘serious’ coffee culture we have going on.

They hold yoga classes at the weekends, open mic afternoons and collaborate with other small businesses. As you can see below they treat their staff well which everyone likes to see!

If you’re an Edinburgh local or visiting this weekend, make sure to pop along to one of these. Give them a follow on Instagram and stay up to date with what they have going on, their Instagram profiles are sure to update you, and take a good hour of your time!
