Sunshine's 2nd Birthday

Sunshine Communications turned 2 last month! Hip hip hooray! Which you'll already know if you've had a read of our Director Jenny's blog. If not, take a look.

As well as having a party to celebrate this achievement, we wanted to do something a little bit different. Something that made us feel all sunny inside (we are Sunshine after all!) and something that made other people feel good too.

So we put our heads together and came up with the brightest birthday campaign ever...

Spreading Some Sunshine!

We all know the drill when it comes to birthdays. You get to spend the day celebrating with friends and family, receive lots of presents and eat loads of cake. We decided to flip this age old tradition on its head* so instead of receiving presents, we want to give some back! We've decided to spread a little bit of Sunshine to those we feel need it most.

*We're still going to participate in the cake eating though, we love a wee treat in the office in and around all our fruit eating!

Throwback to these Sunshine inspired biscuits baked by our lovely intern Emma!

For our birthday campaign, we're going to share our social media expertise and help some really worthwhile causes in and around Edinburgh.

18 triangles in the Sunshine Communications logo. 18 charitable acts.

The charities we've chosen for our inner 6 circles will receive all different kinds of social media help, from training sessions, to a social strategy and monthly content plans. The 12 triangles in the outer circles will receive other random acts of kindness. So team Sunshine get your aprons looked out! We're talking bake sales, trips down to the local food bank, adopting a dog (not literally - *cry*) and more!

At Sunshine Comms we're a generous bunch - but when you're a 24/7 social media agency, time is tight. Finding the time to help others in our personal time hasn't been the easiest, #thestruggleisreal, so we decided that if we couldn't give the time outside of work - we'd do it during work!

We want to be able to pass on all of our skills and tips to charities who could really benefit from a social media push.

Our Chosen Causes

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home are our first chosen charity. All of the team are big lovers of animals, so this was an easy one to pick!

EDCH rescue over a thousand lost or abandoned dogs and cats every year. As well as providing a re-homing programme, they also offer short-term boarding for when you're jetting away on holiday and need somewhere reliable to leave your furry friend.

Canongate Youth Centre

Canongate Youth provide support, recreation and training opportunities for 5-25 year olds to help them overcome barriers and secure a great future.

It's a really worthwhile cause who strive to ensure children and young people in Edinburgh and the Lothians are healthy, happy and secure, belong in their communities and become confident and fulfilled adults.

Hopscotch Children's Charity

Hopscotch Children's Charity was set-up because of the desperate need for vulnerable children to have a free holiday away from home.

Hopscotch has built on-going relationships with many organisations in Scotland who count on them to provide a residential to mentor and support the children in their care.

Joshua Nolan Foundation

Joshua Nolan Foundation's aim is to reduce the number of suicides in Scotland by helping those who need it gain access to quality counselling.

This is a really inspiring charity who were set up in memory of Josh Nolan.

"It’s all about Josh’s legacy being something amazing, something that can touch the lives of others in a positive way."

Guide Dogs Scotland

Guide Dogs Scotland has been making life-changing partnerships for 50 years to make sure that when people lose their sight, they don’t lose their freedom as well.

They also host a number of other initiatives such as their buddy dog scheme which are giving children and young people a vital boost in confidence.

Scottish Association of Mental Health currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland providing mental health social care support, homelessness, addictions and employment services, among others.
